Manchester United in Malaysia

Now about Manchester United's friendly match.

What made a non-footballer/ non- Man utd fan/ non-football fan wanna go pay RM58 to watch this friendly match between Man Utd and Malaysia? **span style="font-size:85%;">My brother even questioned me**

It was the atmoshpere I wanted.

Like i mentioned wayyyy at the top of the post, Man Utd had their practice on Shout Awards day. So I had a chance to walk pass the stadium and I heard the roaring cheers from the fans and the red colour on almost every seat. I wanted to be a part of THAT!

But of course, I didn't have any tickets to watch the practice or the match on Saturday where the score for Man Utd vs Malaysia was 3-2.
Unfortunately, someone had to go bomb The Ritz Carlton in Jakarta over the weekend and that was suppose to be where the Man Utd team was headed to next. So their trip was cancelled and they stayed on in Malaysia and had another rematch on Monday with Malaysia IX.

That was how I was able to (watch the match).. be at the stadium :p

People at the stadium were boo-ing the people who wore Liverpool or Chelsea jerseys. The fans were yelling, "BUKA! BUKA! BUKA!" telling them to take off the non-Man Utd jersey.
That was actually a scary sight. It was the first time I was in an environment where the male population was more than 10 times the population of females. Hearing their cheers and screaming actually sent a shiver running up my spine. The thought-"OMG, is a riot going to start?" -did cross my mind a couple of times.

That was actually the most memorable part for me.
The game became boring. I was yawning. Man Utd scored 2-0 early into the first half and the Malaysia team had many missed opportunities at scoring. They were so close yet so far.

I wasn't rooting for any of the teams. Basically, the best part about a friendly match was that we can cheer for both sides and not get killed ;)

Bad News

Yasmin Ahmad passed away! That is more unbelievable than Micheal Jackson's death!!

Yasmin Ahmad is the critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer and scriptwriter from Malaysia and is also the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well-known in Malaysia for their humour, heart and love that crosses cross-cultural barriers, in particular her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company. Her movies, Rabun, Sepet, Gubra, Mukhsin, Muallaf & Talentime have won multiple awards internationally.

Ysmin Ahmad's blogs : Yasmin the Stroyteller & Yasmin the Filmmaker

I watched Sepet (one of her movies) in the same cinema as her!

2009 marks the death of many, many talented people. A great lost indeed!

Happy Birthday, MUM!

24th July 2009 marks the day my mum turns one year older.

I guess the upcoming trip to Europe will be the best birthday present she has had.

I came home from uni, and my mum and bro were in the kitchen preparing dinner.
Since it was mum's birthday, she decided to make some special dishes.

We had three dishes:
1) Home-made char siew.

There's something good about eating home-cooked char siew. It feels less fatty and not as sweet as the ones sld outside. We can also have it still hot and crispy .

2) Fishes

Well, it looks like a fish but it is actually not made of fish. It is made of shrimp with green peas as the eyes, and red pouty cili padi lips :)

It was definitely too cute to be eaten ;)

Lastly,
3) Bees

Just like the fish, NO, we didn't have bees for dinner. It is actually made of squid, seaweed as the stripes and almonds as the wings, plus chili padi eyes =)

Below is how it look like before it was tossed with peanut.

Looks icky....but it was good after it was cooked.

Sometimes it looks like a hamster or mice too O_o

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MUMMY!

Shout Awards 2009: Her shoe

There was one local entertainer( I don't know her name) who was announcing the nominations during the Shout Awards.

Since I was so close to the stage, I noticed her heels.

A shoe that kills ;)

The Shout Awards 2009: The review

First up, I'd like to say, "Augustana's song, 'Boston' is terribly addictive and I've been listening to it over and over again because the song does bring a calm vibe."
As I type this post, the song is playing and put on repeat :)

Last week there were two events which was really hyped up for the past few months - The Shout Awards and Manchester United football team coming over to Malaysia for a friendly match.
Both were equally advertised a lot with banners and newpaper ads almost everyday till the event. Eventhough I saw the ads, I never bothered taking a second look at it.
I mean, Shout Awards was Malaysian made- meaning it'll be about giving out awards to the local artistes who I don't know because I don't listen to songs or watch shows acted by Malaysian artistes.
As for the Manchester United friendly match, I don't watch football!

The Shout Awards was held on a Friday. On Thursday, a friend smsed me to ask me if I wanted to go as she had extra tickets and it was free of charge. I said OK since it was a Friday.

Only on Friday did I start googling to find out what the Shout Awards was all about. I found the website and went, "Oh, boy. I don't know most of the artistes who will be performing."

So, off I went to Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil at 6pm.
Traffic was horrendous!

I found out too late that Manchester United football team were also having practice at the next stadium. Man Utd fans were parking their cars along the roads, police were putting up roadblocks and I saw fans wearing red shirts everywhere in the street!
I had to break some rules (like travelling on the opposite direction) to find a parking spot at the stadium.

We arrived at the stadium and the red carpet event was starting.

Some people were holding letters spelling C-A-P-R-I-C-E.

I looked at my friend and sister, and both of them had no idea who Caprice was either.
Limosines started pulling up for the red carpet event. Malaysian artistes came out, other people screamed, "CAPRICE!", "BUNKFACE", "AHHH", while I stood there with a HUGE QUESTION MARK.... :(
The Malaysian Artistes I knew:
1. Estranged
2. One Buck Short
3. Marion Caunter
4. Jien
5. Naz

I knew 1 and 2 because they were the opening act for the Good Charlotte's concert I went to few years back.

3 and 4 were TV hosts for Channel V and Disney Buzz respectively.

5 is a good actor and a tv host for The Breakfast Show.

I had the free standing tickets. I wasn't too excited about that at first. But, when we went in, the stadium was empty. We had a choice as to where we could stand. I saw the stage. we were really the front of the pack. Unbelievable but exciting at the same time!

We did have to wait two hours before the show started.
I found out the show was live when a guy and lady came on stage and told us, "The show will be starting on 8tv in 10 minutes. We need all of you to shout whenever the commercials ends and the show starts!" "What must you all do? SHOUTTT!!!"

Hehe.. At first, it definitely felt weird to be told that we had to 'enjoy' ourselves but it actually wasn't that bad, as shouting with thousands of other people was MAGNIFICENT!

The Shout Awards was great! It went on pretty smooth. Standing so near the stage, I didn't see any hiccups during the event.

I finally knew why people were screaming Bunkface, why Bunkface won the most awards and why after the awards show, many people started downloading Bunkface's songs to listen to (from what I saw on msn).

One Buck Short's performance was great, as always.

Estranged was also expected - screamingly noisy like Linkin Park.

Then there were also performances by
**Pop Shuvit
**Joe Flizzow
**Jin Hackman
**Shila
**Nikki
**and Caprice

**I have forgotten who is who .. LOL
But what I do remember was that all the performances were GOOD!

The artistes announcing the nominees and giving out the awards were also ENTERTAINING =)

As always, the Shout Awards saved the best for last.

Jaclyn Victor performance was second last. She sang two of Micheal Jackson's song SUPERBLY well, as a tribute to the singer. TWO THUMBS UP!

Everyone was waiting for the final performance. That was probably the one reason why most people actually turned up for the event- SEAN KINGSTON!

I didn't really feel his vibe! I wasn't excited with his performance. It was because he hardly sang! Read this : I couldn't have described Sean Kingston's performance any better.

Maybe i didn't go for the Shout Awards with high expectations that was why I am now so impressed by it. But, looking back, I'd highly recommend my friends to get tickets for next year's Shout Awards beause 2009 was the FIRST ever Shout Awards and it went very well. Who knows, it might be even better next year.
I personally think we did not need Sean Kingston there or next year or the year after that to promote Shout Awards anymore! Malaysia Boleh :) **oohh patriotic feeling**
