Chocolate hazelnut cheesecake @ Barolo Grill

Me: I read raving reviews on their chocolate hazelnut cheesecake. We should try it.

The Scottish: What? You want pudding?

Me: Not pudding. Cheesecake!

The Scottish: Same thing.

....

The cheesecake at Barolo Grill was simply out of this world. We were so stuff from the pizza that we decided to share a cheesecake.

At first I was imagining the cheesecake to be a triangular shaped size, but it was round. It looked really small when served and was not fit for two people to share ;p

The Scottish: Are you sure you want to share?

We did share because the pizza was quite filling. The chocolate hazelnut cheesecake had a texture like praline and mousse. Imagine taking Nutella from the bottle but a bit softer! It tasted like nutella I guess because of the hazelnut but it was not as sweet as Nutella. One spoon into the mouth and it melts to perfection. It was not cheesy and the base was made of biscuit like other cheesecakes.

The cheesecake was topped with orange peel which went really well with the cake. I'd say its better than eating pizza and steak!

On another note, it was an enjoyable evening because company and banter with the Scottish makes me very happy.
Never a dull moment :)

Barolo Grill, Mitchell Street

Currently prepping my tummy at Barolo Grill for some good, authentic Italian pizza!

"Our pizza are hand stretched by our 'Pizziolo' and baked in a traditional Woodstone pizza oven. We use San Marzano tomatoes and Fior di Latte Mozzarella on all our pizzas"

Other specialities are their steaks according to reviews from Trip Advisor

M back in Glasgow

A hiatus on blogging the past week because I was busy exploring the beauty of Scotland. Thankfully, there were more sunny days than rain.

This week is all about packing up and moving out. I will miss the stunning view from my bedroom window.

Updates on my travels soon :)

I just checked in to the Platinum suite at Double Tree Hotel in Aberdeen. Walking on red carpet everywhere! Even the pillows and sofa is red... Lol

Teaser by Maltesers

I am at the Queen Street Station waiting to board the train to Aberdeen.

I went into Boots to buy something to munch using my Boots points. Ended up with Teaser, a new chocolate from the same creator of Maltesers. It was good but I prefer Malteser balls because the malt inside melts on the tongue and taste good.

The Voice USA 2013 - Shake it out!

After The Voice auditions, battle rounds and knockouts, its finally time for the final stage of the competition where the public votes matters. This years judges are Usher, Shakira, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. I must say that I am pretty impressed by them not only because they are already famous in their own rights, but also because their judging and comments brings a good vibe to the show. I have been following The Voice USA 2013 from the start and it is way better than the previous seasons. The contestants were amazing too and the judges have good sense of humour.

At this stage of the competition, they have something called Shake It Out where each team performs a song on stage.

Click on links to watch each team's performances. Great voices.

Make-up wonders

Now with so many apps available, it makes it easier to connect with people, even strangers. Artistic talents of random people are being showed off on those apps and fame was garnered because they are really good at what they do. One example is the art of putting make-up. On instagram, there are tons of people who show off their skills to put on eye shadows. It looks easy to do, but not really when I tried doing it myself lol.

Then, there are people who experiment with lipsticks. This post actually started after I saw someone make strawberry looking lip using lipstick.

So with the existence of all these apps, talents from make- up to cooking are not hidden anymore. Its an easier route to fame.

Malaysians coming together

As I enjoy my calorie laden chilli kebab topped with cheese, the Malaysian people were busy showing their Malaysian spirit in a stadium! Its more packed than during any football game!!

Now, I would not call this a 'Chinese Tsumani'. Its more like 'tsunami rakyat'.  Malaysians were involved, not just the Chinese. What do you have to say now, Mr. Prime Minister?

Smile

We all smile in the same language :)

Ooh at last the Blogger app has been updated and improved! Initially, I could only place all my pictures at the end of a post as seen in most of my previous posts. If it was not at the bottom of the page, it meant that I blogged using my laptop. But, I rarely turn on my laptop nowadays because the iphone is good enough to do almost everything.

Now I can also bold my word or italicise it :):) i love it! Im waiting till they have different colour fonts and font size too..

Did you notice that of late, most the app needed updating because theres so many improvements to it. Eg: Viber, Instagram, etc

Facebook app's update was a dissppointment though. It lags when I tried to open it. It lags and then it just closes and I have to click on the app a second time to finally get it to launch. Also, laoding time for everything takes longer! Soon, I will be ditching facebook.

Election 2013

I think I felt the passion of the Malaysian people much more than I ever did in previous elections. Not only the old, but the young were standing out too to fight for what they want. Isn't that what a democratic country is all about?

When I was in USA, my American friends were so passionate about the parties they wanted to vote for. They were so involved and knowledgable about political issues going on in their country while for me, I stayed away from politics just because politics is dirty everywhere. It did amaze me that american students in high school and colleges were holding conversations on politics and their opinions mattered. There were also plenty of American homes with American flags hoisted at the front of their houses the entire year, not just during Independence day or election time. How many Malaysian homes put up the Malaysia flag at any other times except Merdeka Day?

I never had interest in politics or election. Election every five years would just pass me by. I wouldnt even read the newspapers about what happened during the previous elections or the outcome of it. But, I guess because of technology -facebook and blogs- there has been so much input and opinions about the election, that its hard not to know at least the gist of what has happened. Its been long known that whatever has been written in our local newspapers were being controlled by the present gov. So, some facts may not be entirely correct. I know of people who have stopped buying newspapers just because of that.

All I am trying to say is that Eventhough I am far away, to be able to feel the vibe of what the people went through this time was encouraging and shows there is still a chance for change, just not this year.

Statistically, it was a pretty close fight.

One change I really want is to be known only as a Malaysian with equal rights, not chinese/indian/muslim Malaysians. I have had Scottish people asking me why We have to be so specific about our race when we were all born in the same country and hold the same colour passports. The People in Singapore are Singaporeans and in Indonesia are Indonesians. No further segregation needed. Also, opportunities should be based on knowledge and capabilities instead of racial quotas. Then, just maybe, more people will proudly hang the Malaysian flags outside their homes instead of the white-green flag or blue flag.

Sunset in Scotland

Once I took a train down to Glasgow when the sun was about to set. I was mesmerised by the view throughout the journey. So, the next time I will, I will be sure to buy an evening ticket journey before it gets dark :)

Cheesecake stuffed strawberry

Too easy to make this. A simple way to curb cheesecake cravings instead of baking a whole cake while enjoying strabwerries at the same time :)

Directions:
1. Rinse off the strawberries.
2. Cut off the stem of each strawberry and then hollow out a little more of the center.
3. Prepare all of the strawberries and set aside.
4. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a mixing bowl until creamy.
5. Place the cheesecake mixture into a piping bag with a star tip. Pipe into each strawberry and arrange on a serving platter.
6. Once the strawberries are filled, sprinkle or dip the tops with graham cracker crumbs.
7. Serve right away or refrigerate before serving.

Necklace for chemist

This is the perfect gift for a science geek. It would be like a secret meaning to the people who know the structure and use of it, while other people won't even take a second look at it :)
I'm no geek, but I kind of love it ❤

Chilli Tuna Spaghetti

A can of tuna always comes in handy when I did not stock up my fridge. For the past week, I tried to go meatless but failed. I feel trying to whip up something meatless takes more effort than a dish with meat. I also tend to binge on junk food like bisuits and chocolates after those meatless meals. It was like havin withdrawal symptoms. Meat is my drug :p

Today, with a fridge with zero meat, I only had a can of tuna in my cupboard. I boiled spaghetti and drained it. Then I fried the spaghetti with the tuna and its oil, added some fish sauce and sprinkled chilli flakes. I then mixed in an egg. It was a similar method to cooking fish fried rice.

Yummy meal in less than 30 minutes :)

Dinner date @Rumours Kopitiam, Glasgow

Initially, we planned to have Nando's. but since the weather was so beautiful, there were tons and tons of people everywhere on Buchanan Street. It was afterall the first day for a sunny weather after all that cold. No jacket required too! The wait at Nando's was one hour 15mins! we definitely did not want to wait that long.

In the end, I suggested Rumours. I have not been to Rumours Kopitiam since two years ago. I had dinner there. It is surprising how so many locals have never heard of Rumours eventhough its been around since 2008. I also realised they hung out more at the West End than at Central Glasgow. We did not have any problems getting a table at Rumours :)

Rumours Kopitiam = Malaysian food feast time :)
We had:
Salted and chilli fried squid
Char kuey teow
Curry Laksa
Thai green curry with noodles

Great weather. Great food! I am a much happier person when there is good food to fill my tummy :)

Spring is just fantastic!

Kik me

I have currently (kind of) migrated from skype to whatsapp to viber to tango to line to wechat to KIK.

Its much more convenient to use kik because I just have to give my username to the other person and we can just start texting. Its less tedious than using a phone number because if I change phone number, I will have to inform everyone and also change it on my whatsapp, viber etc. Skype also requires me to sign in which takes awhile. So, kik is much faster and its really like sms with no cost. Wifi needed of course.

Add me to kik: gaikcheng

Kik says 'the super fast smartphone messenger'
:)
