The Shout Awards 2009: The review

First up, I'd like to say, "Augustana's song, 'Boston' is terribly addictive and I've been listening to it over and over again because the song does bring a calm vibe."
As I type this post, the song is playing and put on repeat :)

Last week there were two events which was really hyped up for the past few months - The Shout Awards and Manchester United football team coming over to Malaysia for a friendly match.
Both were equally advertised a lot with banners and newpaper ads almost everyday till the event. Eventhough I saw the ads, I never bothered taking a second look at it.
I mean, Shout Awards was Malaysian made- meaning it'll be about giving out awards to the local artistes who I don't know because I don't listen to songs or watch shows acted by Malaysian artistes.
As for the Manchester United friendly match, I don't watch football!

The Shout Awards was held on a Friday. On Thursday, a friend smsed me to ask me if I wanted to go as she had extra tickets and it was free of charge. I said OK since it was a Friday.

Only on Friday did I start googling to find out what the Shout Awards was all about. I found the website and went, "Oh, boy. I don't know most of the artistes who will be performing."

So, off I went to Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil at 6pm.
Traffic was horrendous!

I found out too late that Manchester United football team were also having practice at the next stadium. Man Utd fans were parking their cars along the roads, police were putting up roadblocks and I saw fans wearing red shirts everywhere in the street!
I had to break some rules (like travelling on the opposite direction) to find a parking spot at the stadium.

We arrived at the stadium and the red carpet event was starting.

Some people were holding letters spelling C-A-P-R-I-C-E.

I looked at my friend and sister, and both of them had no idea who Caprice was either.
Limosines started pulling up for the red carpet event. Malaysian artistes came out, other people screamed, "CAPRICE!", "BUNKFACE", "AHHH", while I stood there with a HUGE QUESTION MARK.... :(
The Malaysian Artistes I knew:
1. Estranged
2. One Buck Short
3. Marion Caunter
4. Jien
5. Naz

I knew 1 and 2 because they were the opening act for the Good Charlotte's concert I went to few years back.

3 and 4 were TV hosts for Channel V and Disney Buzz respectively.

5 is a good actor and a tv host for The Breakfast Show.

I had the free standing tickets. I wasn't too excited about that at first. But, when we went in, the stadium was empty. We had a choice as to where we could stand. I saw the stage. we were really the front of the pack. Unbelievable but exciting at the same time!

We did have to wait two hours before the show started.
I found out the show was live when a guy and lady came on stage and told us, "The show will be starting on 8tv in 10 minutes. We need all of you to shout whenever the commercials ends and the show starts!" "What must you all do? SHOUTTT!!!"

Hehe.. At first, it definitely felt weird to be told that we had to 'enjoy' ourselves but it actually wasn't that bad, as shouting with thousands of other people was MAGNIFICENT!

The Shout Awards was great! It went on pretty smooth. Standing so near the stage, I didn't see any hiccups during the event.

I finally knew why people were screaming Bunkface, why Bunkface won the most awards and why after the awards show, many people started downloading Bunkface's songs to listen to (from what I saw on msn).

One Buck Short's performance was great, as always.

Estranged was also expected - screamingly noisy like Linkin Park.

Then there were also performances by
**Pop Shuvit
**Joe Flizzow
**Jin Hackman
**Shila
**Nikki
**and Caprice

**I have forgotten who is who .. LOL
But what I do remember was that all the performances were GOOD!

The artistes announcing the nominees and giving out the awards were also ENTERTAINING =)

As always, the Shout Awards saved the best for last.

Jaclyn Victor performance was second last. She sang two of Micheal Jackson's song SUPERBLY well, as a tribute to the singer. TWO THUMBS UP!

Everyone was waiting for the final performance. That was probably the one reason why most people actually turned up for the event- SEAN KINGSTON!

I didn't really feel his vibe! I wasn't excited with his performance. It was because he hardly sang! Read this : I couldn't have described Sean Kingston's performance any better.

Maybe i didn't go for the Shout Awards with high expectations that was why I am now so impressed by it. But, looking back, I'd highly recommend my friends to get tickets for next year's Shout Awards beause 2009 was the FIRST ever Shout Awards and it went very well. Who knows, it might be even better next year.
I personally think we did not need Sean Kingston there or next year or the year after that to promote Shout Awards anymore! Malaysia Boleh :) **oohh patriotic feeling**
